Neighbors Helping Neighbors

How many times have you said or thought, “I wish someone could help (fill in your neighbor’s name) with one of the following:?”

  • Trash removal
  • Yard maintenance
  • Snow removal
  • Lawn mowing
  • Limited plumbing and electrical repair
  • Exterior painting
  • Raking leaves
  • Trimming branches
  • Washing windows
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Changing smoke alarm batteries

Shawnee, Kansas has one of the best kept secrets in the Kansas City metro area. It’s a program called “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” Of course, we don’t want to keep this gem a secret! That’s why I want to share information about Shawnee’s “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a City of Shawnee volunteer program that aims to help eligible residents maintain and remain in their homes. Neighbors Helping Neighbors connects volunteers, volunteer groups, faith communities, and businesses with eligible Shawnee residents whose homes require maintenance and/or repair. What a novel idea to partner the needs of some with the willing hands of others.

During the month of August, Christian Brothers Automotive-Shawnee will take $20 off your automotive repair if you donate $10 cash/check to “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” This donation helps “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” buy vital supplies to help get these homes back into tip top shape.
