Transmission Repair Frequently Asked Questions
1. What factors determine the price of transmission repair?
There are several different factors that can raise or lower the cost of transmission repair. The biggest factor is the vehicle you drive. Depending on the year, make and model of the car, the cost of parts and labor can vary. The amount of damage the transmission has sustained is also a factor. You may need to rebuild it with new parts or replace the whole transmission. A regularly serviced transmission will last at least 100,000 miles.
2. What does automatic transmission include?
During automatic transmission service, fluid is first drained from the pan. The pan is then removed and a new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket. Then the vehicle is refilled with fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF).
3. Is there a difference between a transmission fluid flush and change?
With a transmission fluid and filter change, only the fluid in the pan is drained and replaced with new ATF. This usually results in four to five quarts of replaced fluid. During a full transmission fluid flush, nine to thirteen quarts are usually replaced. This is because the fluid is drained from the entire system during a complete flush.
