Corpus Christi Rainy Day Driving Tips
| By: Christian Brothers Automotive
During this time of year, it's common to see rain storms in the Corpus Christi area. Even if you enjoy this weather, you can certainly agree that it can make driving more difficult. That is why Christian Brothers would like to present you with a few easy steps to improve driving in rainy weather.
- Replace your windshield wipers: Are your windshield wipers skipping, streaking, or squeaking? If so, it's probably time to replace them. Also, you can look over your blades for corrosion or other damage that might indicate a need for a change. Buying new blades will do wonders for improving your visibility to help you better react to anything that happens while you are on the road.
- Eliminate distractions: Rainstorms are not the time to be taking calls, messing with your radio, or eating a hamburger. Keep both hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road and your mirrors.
- Maintain a safe speed: During heavy rain, don't use cruise control. Even if cars are speeding around you, you can stay below the posted speed limits within a range you feel good about.
- Keep a safe distance: Stay five car lengths, or one second of following distance per ten miles per hour, behind the car in front of you. This will give you ample time to brake quickly or respond to anything that may happen.
- Be prepared: Even if you are an extremely safe driver, you could still be at risk for skidding or hydroplaning. Never slam on the brakes if you start skidding. Remain calm and slowly steer in the direction you want to travel. Similar steps should be followed if you start hydroplaning (when your travels on top of water and has little to no contact with the ground).
Make sure you keep these steps in mind to improve your chances of safe travel during rain in Corpus Christi.
