With as much time as we spend in our cars, and miles we put on our cars, it’s inevitable that at some point we will need auto repairs. When that time comes and you need to choose a reliable car repair shop in Houston, then it’s important to ask and know the answers to these 3 questions before moving forward with any repairs.

1. What warranty comes with the repairs to your vehicle? Warranties are subject to time, mileage, and other limitations. A repair warranty may cover the price of the items actually repaired, but does it cover items damaged as a result of those repairs failing? The industry standard is a Limited 12 month or 12,00 miles, but could be as high as 36 months or 36,000 miles.

2. Are the technicians ASE certified? An Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification means the technicians meet basic standards of knowledge and competence in specific technical areas. While ASE is the industry standard, knowing if the technician is manufacturer certified is equally important. Both certifications require extensive training and aptitude testing. Continued employee education should also be a factor in choosing your car repair shop. Vehicles are changing rapidly, and you want to be sure the auto mechanic working on your vehicle is equipped to work on your car.

3. Is the repair shop equipped to do the full repairs needed? Some repairs require other repairs - and unfortunately, not all repair shops have the proper equipment or knowledge to complete the work. From alignments to computer programming to suspensions, always double check with the shop to be sure they are equipped to handle the scope of the repair work so that a trip to another repair shop is avoided.

There are a handful of other questions you might ask, depending on your particular need. In the end, the most important thing is that you ask your question. Don’t be afraid to question what you are being told and ask for proof. Many shops now offer digital inspections with pictures too - so be sure you get to see yours!
