Common Problems with Traction Control System and ABS
Sensors Aren’t Responding
Traction control and ABS most commonly develop problems with the wheel speed sensors. These sensors are moderately exposed to the elements, leaving them slightly vulnerable. The magnetic operation on the traction control sensors or Anti-lock Braking sensors can be interrupted by dirt or other buildups. Another common sensor problem is with the electrical connections between the sensors and the vehicle’s computer. If you feel your connections are being disrupted, call for a diagnostic at our auto repair shop near Peachtree City.
Warning Lights Stay On
Some vehicles have only one warning light for both traction control and ABS, and others have two separate warning lights for the systems. Two lights are becoming more common as cars now allow drivers to turn their traction control on or off. If a warning light comes on intermittently while driving, it may be something as simple as a loose electrical connection. However, warning lights also come on for issues like a slipping or locked wheel. If a warning light stays on for more than a few days, the system is not functioning properly or has been disabled.
Basic System Problems
The actual design of ABS and traction control systems vary by make and model of the vehicle. Some systems use hydraulic valves and actuators, while others are fully electric. Fortunately, our ASE-certified technicians are able to handle systems on all types of cars or trucks – including foreign and luxury cars. Basic systems may only have a few sensors, whiles others may have many types of sensors, including gyroscopes, accelerometers and GPS units. There can be problems with any of those components, including the ABS computer itself. If you notice anything strange happening with your ABS or traction control system, bring the vehicle in for an inspection.
