5 Automotive Terms Every Jackson Driver Needs to Know
At Christian Brothers Automotive Jackson, we understand our faithful customers sometimes visit other Tennessee auto repair shops for their car service.
To protect our patrons, no matter where their vehicle is serviced, our experienced staff has put together a list of 5 vital car terms every driver needs to know.
1. Dipstick
Our ASE-certified technicians remove your engine’s dipstick to visually inspect the level and quality of the car’s fluids. The specialist uses this information to determine whether you need an oil change (or the replacement of another fluid).
2. Spark Plug
The spark plug is responsible for igniting the engine’s fuel/air mixture. This ignition powers the engine. However, when a spark plug has burned out, it will not properly ignite. Replacing your spark plugs saves money and increases fuel efficiency.
3. [Battery] Corrosion
When your battery leaks acid, corrosion forms and may cause battery failure. When the battery is corroded, it will not function properly and could leave you stuck with a dead engine. Regular battery checks will help prevent buildup.
4. Brake Pad
As you accelerate and hit the brakes, your brake pads wear out. The pads become thinner over time and could hinder your car’s ability to stop safely. Frequent brake system inspections and brake pad replacements keep every drive safe.
5. Timing Belt
The timing belt, usually made of reinforced rubber, operates the engine’s camshaft. The timing belt opens and closes the engine valves at the proper time and should be replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended mileage interval.
