Common Brake Issues
Over time, your brakes may start showing signs of wear or trouble. Some of the most common issues we see include:
- Squealing or grinding noises: If you hear squealing when you brake, it might mean your brake pads are wearing thin. Grinding sounds can indicate that the pads have worn down completely and may be damaging the rotors.
- A soft or spongy brake pedal: If your brake pedal feels unusually soft or sinks to the floor, it could be a sign of air in the brake lines or a problem with your hydraulic system—both of which can affect braking power.
- Shaking or vibrations while braking: If your vehicle shakes or vibrates when you press the brakes, it could be due to warped rotors or uneven brake pad wear.
- Pulling to one side when braking: If your car veers left or right when you brake, it could be caused by uneven pad wear, a stuck caliper, or an issue with your brake fluid.
- Burning smell during braking: A sharp burning odor after heavy braking may mean your brakes are overheating or a caliper is stuck.
- Brake warning lights: If your brake warning light comes on, it’s a sign that something needs attention—whether it’s low brake fluid, worn pads, or another issue.
If you notice any of these warning signs, don’t wait—stop by and let our friendly, knowledgeable team take a look before a small issue becomes a bigger, costlier repair.
