Christian Brothers Automotive Spotlight
Doug Vidler wants you to know that Christian Brothers Automotive on Brawley School Road is not your average auto shop. When he took over the Mooresville location of this well-established franchise in 2018, he brought with him a forty-year career in the automotive industry and a dedication to raising the shop a step above the competition.
Based in Houston, Christian Brothers Automotive has sought to change the way customers think about auto service by providing knowledgeable, honest and genuine car repairs. They are a faith-based company with the guiding mission statement: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself. The company has been serving their neighbors for 38 years in 30 states, and that simple idea continues to guide their practices and policies. They approach auto repair work with transparency, integrity and compassion.
Doug moved to the area from Ohio in 2018 and took on the challenge of making the Mooresville Christian Brothers Automotive as successful as he knew it could be. He had worked his entire career in automotive development and service. “I’m a car guy with an MBA,” he jokes. “I knew I could make a difference in the industry here and ownership was the way. Christian Brothers Automotive has an excellent business plan and the training and support can’t be beat. Because I have worked in automotive engineering, training and education, I know how vehicles are designed and manufactured and serviced. I knew I could make this business successful.”
When you talk with Doug you can quickly understand he is a car guy at heart and his business is deeply personal. “I am a hands-on owner and operator,” he says. “The entire team and I love what we do, and we really do treat our customers like family.” He leans on the support and training offered by the Christian Brothers Automotive’s headquarters and vehicle manufacturer partners. “It's true, I’m in business for myself, but I am not BY myself. There is an incredible amount of knowledge and skill at the Home Office. In 2019, we won the JD Power Award for Customer Satisfaction. It's good to be a part of that team. I’m blessed to have built an incredible network throughout the entire automotive industry.”
Customer service is a mainstay at Christian Brothers Automotive. “We take care of customers… and by the way, we fix cars,” says Doug. And fix cars, they certainly do! Christian Brothers is licensed for NC inspection and works on all makes and models. They are licensed and have the same diagnostic computers found in dealerships. Plus, Christian Brothers Automotive Mooresville technicians are all ASE Certified. “Every shop should have at least one ASE Certified employee,” says Doug. “Many shops have none. We are 100% certified. It’s a pedigree and guarantee. Also we are the only AAA Approved Auto Repair facility in a ten mile radius, and we are RepairPal Certified. We are also a CarMax Authorized Warranty Repair Center.”
“Automotive repair in general isn't always a happy topic. It is sometimes a large investment and you need to know the repairs are done correctly by qualified, trained and equipped personnel. I make sure my employees are all those things, plus our repairs are backed by the best warranty in the industry.”
Being an auto repair shop in Race City is unique and servicing some of the performance and classic cars here in the Point is a special treat. Doug himself is a collector and loves his 1987 Buick Grand National. “We have folks from the Point that bring us classics and hot rods and vintage. My senior master tech, Chad, has 33 years of experience, my other master tech, Frank, has 21, plus I have over 40 years. Including my other technicians and staff, we have over 130 years combined experience! We knew these cars when they were brand new. We baby them. We baby all cars but we understand classic cars.”
“I’m on the Program Advisory Counsel for NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville and an advisory panelist for the Auto Care Association” says Doug. “Also in support of our community, we partner with The Christian Mission in Mooresville to provide assistance for their clients, in addition to our local churches, Hope of Mooresville - (HOMe), and the Lowe’s YMCA.”
Doug and his fiancé couldn’t be happier living here in the Lake Norman area. “This is the place to be! We love it. My fiancé, Heidi has been here much longer than I have. I love the climate, I don’t miss shoveling. We enjoy the lake and spend time hiking and exploring the mountains. We also love the Outer Banks.” He can’t help mentioning cars even when talking about the climate, “I don’t miss rust on the vehicles!”
