Why does my car have trouble starting?
What is part of the fuel system?
The fuel system is made up of these components:
- Fuel tank
- Fuel pump and injection assembly
- Fuel pump
- Fuel injectors
- ·Fuel lines
What can go wrong?
Decreased engine performance and low fuel economy are serious signs that something is wrong with the fuel system. However, there are other warning signs to tip you off that the system needs some care. If the vehicle struggles with any hard starting, rough idling, stalling or knocking sounds coming from the engine, you should stop by the repair shop before it gets worse.
How do I fix it?
Fuel filters that keep unwanted dirt particles out of the car will eventually wear out or become clogged. When this happens, dirt will buildup on the cylinder heads or intake valve and put unnecessary stress on your car. Changing out the fuel filters regularly is not expensive and will increase the longevity of the car!
A worn out fuel pump is another problem we see on cars that are at least 5 years old. Its location inside the gas tank makes it tricky to look at and repair. If your car one day decides to not start, the fuel pump is a likely culprit.
The fuel pump is responsible for pumping gas from your tank at a certain pressure. If it’s unable to maintain that pressure or isn’t pumping enough gas, then that’s when you start to have problems.
