Just like holding a AAA certification, becoming ASE certified isn’t easy. Before a technician can even apply to take the ASE certification exams, the technician must complete either two years of on the job training or one year in training and a two-year degree in automotive repair. All 40 specialty exams must be retaken every five years to ensure a technician’s skills stay sharp.
