Signs Your Car’s AC System May Need Servicing | Christian Brothers Automotive, West Wichita

| By: Christian Brothers Automotive

As the weather gets hotter and the days get sunnier, having an operational air conditioning system in your car goes from being a “nice to have” to being a must quite quickly. Cars can easily reach over 100 degrees after being parked in the summer sun, and getting back into a hot car without working air conditioning can be downright miserable.

Like many of us, you likely have not checked in on your air conditioning system in awhile, but now is the time to do so! Over the winter, sneaky problems could have developed that will leave you baking in your car come July. Below, you can read up on some of the clear signs that your AC may need a service.

Clear Signs That It Is Time to Get Your Car’s AC System Serviced

You are only getting hot air. When it is sweltering in your car, the last thing you want is to be hit with a blast of hot air from your car’s AC. While it is normal for systems to blow warmer air when they are first turned on, if things never turn cold, it can be a sign that there is a serious problem within your system. An AC system that only blows hot air can mean that you have a refrigerant leak, have an issue with your condenser or even that an electrical component has malfunctioned.

The air your system is blowing smells terrible. While bad-smelling air is slightly more pleasant than hot air, it is still rather miserable! If your AC system is blowing out air with a foul odor, it may mean it is time to change your cabin air filter, which is recommended every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. This air filter is designed to clean your cabin air and keep it free from pollutants, so it becomes quite vital during the summer!

No air is blowing at all. If there is no air blowing from your AC system at all, it may point to a problem with your fan compressor or blower hose. Both of these things can hinder the ability of the air to flow through the system, resulting in stagnant cabin air that is rather unpleasant!

If your car is showing any signs of AC issues, we can help! Schedule an AC service with us today and we’ll be happy to tackle the issue.
