How To Get Your Car’s Emissions Inspected Under New Texas System
To help the Woodway community transition to this new process, the kind technicians at our local auto repair center will explain how it works.
How the new Texas inspection system works in 2015
As of March 1, 2015, Texas vehicles will have to pass the state inspection before renewing the registration. Whenever you go online to renew your registration, the inspection must have been completed within the last 90 days to complete the process.
When your vehicle passes the Texas safety and emissions test, the inspectors will enter this information into a digital database run by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) instead of putting a sticker on your windshield. This database will be referenced whenever you try to re-register your car or truck. Just in case you are asked to provide proof of the inspection, keep the Vehicle Inspection Report given to you at the time of the inspection.
Special grace period for drivers
Many Woodway residents are concerned about how this new 90-day rule works if their inspection and registration don’t both expire within this timeframe. The Texas government is giving everyone a grace period for his or her inspection sticker. In 2015, do not have your vehicle inspected until you’re about to renew your registration.
If this doesn’t apply to you, then you won’t see any major differences. Inspection stations like ours in Woodway will be charging a cheaper fee for the inspection when it’s done. However, when you go online to pay for registration, there will be some state fees to pay as well.
For most drivers in Woodway, the only noticeable difference will be one less sticker on your windshield!
